A veteran Florida Highway Patrol trooper was shoty and killed during a traffic stop in Lake Placid in Central Florida Friday afternoon.
The dead trooper was identified as Sgt. Nicholas G. Sottile, 48, of Lake Placid. Sottile worked in Miami-Dade County during the early to mid-1980's, FHP Lt. Col. Ken Howes said.
The shootings happened at 3:22 p.m., Howes said. As of late Friday police were searching for two men, including one who ran from the scene on U.S. 27. The other fled in a beige Toyota Camry, the FHP said.
